Berlin Throwdown 2017

What a weekend, the second year in a row our box organized the Berlin Throwdown: http://www.berlin-throwdown.com/

And they did great. I have been on a couple of Throwdons and competitions and can compare them. It was well organized, we good some goodies and an event s-shirt (still hoping for tank tops for the girls one day). The location was the same like last year, more space was used this year. Schedule, heats and structure really good prepared and all the people had a lot of fun…
We started as a team again: “Chilli Vanilly 2.0”. It was my third competions in four weeks, so I was really tired and felt the stress on my body. The ggod thing was, that we only had to compete on Saturday because Sunday was just for individuals. The workouts were hard, 6 events, including one stupid (because I am bad at it 😉 ) squat snatch ladder.

It was more demanding than last year and the teams athlete field was much stronger (I think even stronger than the individuals).

We finished up 13th, which was not our goal. But we had some bad moments and bad luck with judges, getting no rep-ed and being super strict (too strict) with some of the movements which is annoying when u compare with other teams and their judges…

Saturday Partner WOD

I just love my Saturday mornings at the box with my wod partner in crime. He is the perfect workout match… 🙂

Afterwards I decided to take a rest and did not go back to the gym: great coffee, yummy food and little bit sightseeing in Berlin…

Monday

It is quite hard to get a spot for a class right now because we have so many new members in the gym, at least I could do the regular wod today…

Weightlifting class was full, it is okay for this week because we have to do the qualifier for the French Throwdown, so I have to be careful with my trainings session.

I did the WOD 2 as a trial last Friday, 1 RM Squat Clean, 75 kg. 77.5 kg did not work because I sat under the bar but could not get up. Annoying, my 1 RM front squat is 90kg… But I squatted before, so I guess, that was the reason. Still, I probably won’t do it again because of 2kg. I am not a big fan of doing 1 RMs anyways… Tomorrow I ll do WOD 1:

Naughty Nate
amrap 8
2 muscle ups
4 handstand push up (with open standard 😦 )
8 American KB swings (24kg)

Warm-up

2. hang
3. high hang
4. snatch pull
5. overhead squat
6. stand up weight overhead

3x
20-60sec headstand hold tucked
60sec rest

Metcon (No Measure)
4x 30sec work, 30sec rest

2min rest

4x 30sec each side, 30sec rest

one legged rdl /w db or kb
even: band pull aparts / odd: band face pull

Saturday 22/4/17

I still train on a regular base: 6 days a week but it i so hard to keep track on all workouts and write about them. As I am using behind the whiteboard to log my results I sometimes just skip writing my CF blog because of time issues. 😉

Last Saturday I went as usual to the morning class and did the 9am class with my favorite Saturday buddy. Unfortunately it was a little chaotic with the workout or the explanation ( I am not sure who’s fault it is).

Warm-up
40 burpees
*partner holds empty bar overhead
40cal row
*patner holds dead hang
40 wall balls
*partner holds deep squat

Metcon (Time) in teams of 2
*barbell is not allowed to touch the floor, every time you drop it is 5 synchronized burpee over the bar for the team

40 hang power clean 50/35
300m run /w barbell
40 s2o 50/35
300m run /w barbell
40 ohs 50/35
300m run /w barbell
40 thruster 50/35
300m run /w barbell
40 burpees (partner holds barbell. Don’t drop it…. You’re almost there!)

So the goal was to hold the barbell all the time and not putting it on the floor. But if you have 2 barbells because male-female you also were supposed to hold the barbell the whole timen and both supposed to run with one barbell. There is kinda no rest for one of them, while others just share one barbell?”!?!

So we started with one barbell, using 50 kg. We did the hang clean, the run, the s2o. Then it started to rain, so one held the barbell while the other was running. I ran. The I started OHS but realized they would be too heavy to do more than 3-4, it was stupid because the RX weight for girls was 15 kg less. It would have taken too long. So I set up another barbell. Then we had to keep them both away from the floor and had kinda no rest in between, so we dropped them a couple of times and did the burpees. In the middle we were told it supposed to be burpees over the barbell… What a chaotic start into the day…

In the afternoon I came back. I am always looking for a new program I can follow because I feel the box program is not right for me, we hardly do things I am not good at. Right now the getting stronger and work on your strengths, doing less metcons and barbell cycling doe not help me getting better. Lindsey Velenzuela, one of the strong CG girls from the US posted on her instagram account sth about “the welded athlete”. I googled it and gathered some information. For 20 dollars a month you can join them. There is an app you can work with, to compare, log your results and see the daily wod. I looked at the test program and really liked it and decided to give it a shot. So I did the first session on Saturday. It was not an easy one… 😉

Another vacation wod CF Albufeira

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We went down south by car. And I did one more wod on the coast at CrossFit Albufeira. The town itself is not very nice, lots of tourists and cheesy souvenir shops, too many not so good looking restaurants and so many hotels and ugly buildings right next to the beach. Our little hotel was 5km away in a smaller place, that was a bit nicer and not so full with all this tourist shops and restaurants.

The box itself was pretty cool, behind the main road and a petrol station, not too big and too fancy, seemed like a real box. On our day there was more fun team workout than a serious wod, which was fine, it was Easter Saturday. We worked in teams of 5 and did different exercises as a team, 5 minutes per station, one minute rest in between. The class took a while, even we did not workout that hard, but they just took their time… ;D

Afterwards I tried their Rogue pegboard which was fun but also very tricky, I managed to go all the way up and down…, yeah.
